Refugee clients build successful businesses that allow them to earn much-needed income for their families while gaining confidence, deeper community ties, and much more.

The IRC in San Diego is currently recruiting for several AmeriCorps members.

Refugee and immigrant youth share their stories through public speaking engagements, events, and now a semi-permanent display at the San Diego International Airport in partnership with High Tech High.

Until last year, Line had spent almost her entire life in a refugee camp. 

Each year the IRC in San Diego resettles approximately 1,000 refugees with the majority coming from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia in recent years. By September 30, we expect as many as 500 individuals, mostly Syrian, to reach their new homes in San Diego.

At this year’s International Documentary Film Series, we were joined by two special guest speakers from the IRC in San Diego’s Peacemakers program who shared their thoughts and reactions to the film “This is Exile: Diaries of Child Refugees." One of our speakers, Hind Osman, shared her story of coming to the U.S. as a refugee when she was a child.

There are many ways to get involved with the IRC's work in San Diego.

Private donations contribute greatly to the success of the IRC's work. Although we receive state and federal funding for initial resettlement and employment services, the assistance we provide to refugee families beyond their first few months in the U.S. would not be possible without the support of our community.
