It's well known that the International Rescue Committee's refugee clients come from trouble spots in other parts of the world. What is less known is that some of our volunteer assistants in the office come from other countries as well. The following is an interview with Seleyna Milliot and Dorian Hostain, two standout volunteers who came from France to serve in the IRC's Turlock and Modesto offices from April 2019 through June 2019.
Meet an IRC volunteer: Hanat Balimuttajjo
IRC volunteer Hanat Balimuttajjo has served the IRC in Turlock/Modesto as a volunteer since September 2018. A native of Uganda who grew up in England, Hanat taught English in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia before coming to the United States in December 2017.

The IRC in Northern California is pleased to announce the #WomenThrive campaign! From International Women’s Day (Mar 8) until Mother’s Day (May 12), we are raising much needed funds for IRC’s work that helps ensure refugee women thrive in their new homes in Northern California.
Corporate Engagement Opportunities in Northern California
The IRC in Northern California is pleased to provide our local and national partners with opportunities to engage directly with our programs in a meaningful way. Through volunteer events, small corporate groups work together to deliver their unique assistance and expertise directly to the IRC's refugee and asylee clients. All activities can be paired with an education session that teaches participants the basics of refugee resettlement.
Weekly Immigration Consultations
Get an immigration legal consultation from IRC's Department of Justice Accredited Representatives at these walk-in immigration clinics. No appointment necessary. Clinics are available in San Jose, Oakland, Sacramento, and Turlock.
