Wichita launches H.O.M.E. Program

Moving to a new country can be an overwhelming and isolating experience for anyone. Refugees who are forced to flee their homes due to conflict, violence and/or persecution face particularly acute cultural, emotional and financial challenges during the resettlement process. IRC's HOME Program pairs volunteer groups with refugee families to help ease their transition into life in the U.S. through mentorship and financial and material support.

Film Screening: FOR SAMA

October 2, 2019

FOR SAMA follows the life of a young mother and her daughter through five years of the uprising in Aleppo, Syria. The screening will be followed by an open discussion about the Syrian crisis and the plight of refugees worldwide facilitated by IRC in Wichita Executive Director, Michele Green.

New arrival finds work helping other refugees

In September 2018, a man from the DRC arrived in Wichita, Kansas with his wife and four children. Today, he and his wife work full time, all their children attend school and the family has purchased their own car. Now he is giving help to other refugees.

On October 23, Buffalo Wild Wings will give 10 percent of your total check back to supporting refugees in Wichita. Simply state that you want to support refugees and the IRC in Wichita during your dinner.

Free Citizenship Workshops a Success

The IRC in Wichita’s Immigration Department provides free and low-cost immigration services to both refugees and the Wichita community. Every month a free workshop at the IRC in Wichita is held to assist eligible permanent residents complete their applications for U.S. citizenship.

Bike Walk Wichita provides bicycles, helmets, lights, reflectors, and locks to newly arrived refugees to help them get to work on time and build self-sufficiency.

Items needed for refugees in Wichita

The IRC in Wichita is committed to bringing our beneficiaries from harm to home. As part of that commitment, we provide the necessities they will need to start rebuilding their lives here in Wichita. To do this, the IRC relies on donated items from community partners that are passed into the hands of our clients free of charge as part of an initial household setup. We have a number of new arrivals scheduled to resettle in Wichita in August and are in dire need of the household items.
