VITA Tax Preparer
The IRC's Program Quality and Innovation Unit assists offices that help newly arrived refugees and other low-income individuals reach self-sufficiency by finding entry-level employment and progress to living wage jobs; learn basic financial management skills and build assets; start small businesses, and access Earned Income Tax Credit. Under the supervision of the Tax Site Coordinator, Tax Preparers will provide free, professional tax preparation services for low-income clients through IRC's National Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The program is offering services to clients in IRC offices located in Phoenix, AZ, Salt Lake City, UT, Denver, CO, and Elizabeth, NJ. The IRC's goal is to assist 4,000 taxpayers in preparing their returns in a safe, culturally, and linguistically appropriate manner.
Employment Intern
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 25 U.S. cities, we restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are displaced.
Interested in sponsoring a refugee family?
There are many ways community groups can help welcome refugees resettling in their area. IRC expects to welcome thousands of Afghans this year, and has already resettled more clients since September than in the entire year before. Afghan Placement and Assistance Community Partners refer to an organization, community sponsor which has accepted in a written agreement with the resettlement agency responsibility to provide program services to certain refugees sponsored by the resettlement agency.

Landlords: Renting to Refugees and Afghan Evacuees
The IRC will help thousands of refugees in the coming year, most of whom fled violence in Afghanistan. Refugees have a proven attitude of perseverance and determination. Most have a strong desire to create healthy homes and prosperous futures. Refugees are culturally diverse and responsible community members who are eager to establish themselves in and contribute to American society. You can help your community by renting your property to these newcomers as they rebuild their lives.
Beyond Urbanization: Farming for Fulfillment: Rebuilding Fertile Urban Spaces
This September, the New Roots Community Farm’s (NRCF) community members came together to rebuild the farm. This project consisted of transplanting new plants, weeding, and installing sturdier plant beds. The New York Restoration Project also joined the NRCF in these efforts to execute the rebuild. The IRC in NY sat with Sheryll Durrant, the Food and Agriculture Coordinator at IRC in NY, to learn about the impact of this rebuild and the vision of the NRCF as a whole.
