Dallas, Texas, October 7, 2016 — Statement from International Rescue Committee Dallas, Texas, Executive Director Donna Duvin regarding the State of Texas’ dismissal today of its appeal of Texas Health and Human Services Commission v. USA. That ruling stated that it is illegal for the state to ban refugees from resettling in Texas.
“Attorney General Paxton’s decision reinforces the fact that refugee resettlement in Texas is perfectly lawful. The move also aligns with what’s actually happening in Texas communities where refugees typically are warmly welcomed and supported as they rebuild their lives here.
We now hope the Governor also will reconsider efforts to discontinue Texas’s participation in the United States refugee resettlement program.”
