From major cities to remote villages, women and girls worldwide face harassment, violence, discrimination and a lack of equal opportunities. These are the toughest places to be a woman today, according to IRC experts.

The situation for girls in places prone to conflict and crisis can change in an instant. When women and girls lack power in their homes and communities, every shock—whether armed conflict, drought, flood or COVID-19—inevitably affects them more than others.

Nearly 120,000 Rohingya remain displaced in camps and villages on the outskirts of Sittwe, the capital of Myanmar’s Rakhine State. Here, the situation has become worse since humanitarian aid has been restricted in camps and the rest of Rakhine—leaving hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people in desperate need.
