The IRC in Abilene is committed to serving Afghan families and other refugee arrivals by ensuring they have access to safe housing, medical care, mental health services, case management, and other vital services as they rebuild their lives in our community. Join us on May 1st for a special screening of Angels Are Made of Light, a documentary following school-aged children in Kabul, Afghanistan, with guest speaker and IRC client, Farahnaz Anwari, who taught in Afghan conflict zones for nearly 20 years.

In mid-August 2021, when many at-risk Afghans evacuated to the United States, local organizations rallied to provide support.

Due to the lack of available, affordable housing, the IRC is working with the community to identify temporary housing alternatives for newly-arriving Afghan refugees and their families.
