In acute emergencies, the IRC implements community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) to ensure that children and pregnant lactating women get the treatment they need. As countries evolve from emergencies to rebuilding, the IRC prioritizes the prevention and treatment of malnutrition.

The IRC’s integrated network of support for early childhood programming ensures that babies and young children are receiving appropriate health and nutrition, cared for by nurturing and consistent caregivers in a safe and supportive environment, developing essential cognitive and social and emotional skills, and engaging in play and early learning experiences.

The IRC created and is piloting an innovative costing tool. The Systematic Cost Analysis (SCAN) tool will simplify the process of conducting cost analyses for country- based and technical staff, ultimately facilitating program decision-making processes to achieve greater reach and impact for crisis-affected populations.

The Violence, Prevention and Response (VPR) unit implements programming that prevents violence against women, children, especially girls, and other vulnerable groups, and responds to it when it does occur.
