Drawing on parallel themes of humanity and hope, the IRC is proud to collaborate with the Zookeeper's Wife film. This Passover, use this supplement to your family's Haggadah to share this extraordinary story and inspire positive action for the current refugee crisis.

The Zookeeper’s Wife is the real-life story of one working wife and mother who became a hero to hundreds during World War II. In 1939 Poland, Antonina Żabińska and her husband, Dr. Jan Żabiński, had the Warsaw Zoo flourishing under his stewardship and her care. When their country was invaded by the Germans, the the Żabińskis covertly worked with the Resistance and put into action plans to save Jewish families from the Warsaw Ghetto, putting themselves and their family at great risk. In the spirit of this heroic story, Focus Features has collaborated with humanitarian relief agencies the International Rescue Committee (IRC), HIAS, and CARE; and leading Jewish organizations from around the country to produce this Haggadah supplement.

The International Rescue Committee, hereinafter referred to as “the IRC”, is a non-profit, humanitarian agency that provides relief, rehabilitation, protection, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees, displaced persons and victims of oppression and violent conflict.

The IRC is currently implementing a five-year urban livelihoods program: Refugees in East Africa: Boosting Urban Innovations for Livelihoods Development (Re: Build). The Re: Build program is funded by the IKEA Foundation and is currently under implementation in Kampala (Uganda) and Nairobi (Kenya). The objective of Re: Build is to enable positive change in the lives of urban refugees and generate evidence of what works in designing livelihoods programs for urban refugees and their host communities. Our approach in delivering this objective is by identifying client-centered approaches and practices that have the potential of building economic self-reliance for the refugees and their host communities. We will continuously test effectiveness of these approaches, and regularly promote the findings through diverse platforms as a strategy for championing the cause of urban refugee with governments, donors, civil society and private sector to facilitate adoption of successful interventions at a large scale, with the aim of creating transformative opportunities for millions of people in East African cities and beyond.

The IRC invites proposals from interested bidders for Data collection (multiple end line surveys) and fieldwork activities for the Re:build wave 1 Randomized Control Trial (RCT) research study in Kampala, Uganda. IRC will sign a service agreement with the successful bidder.

Recommendations from LGBTQI-led and -serving organization representatives, researchers, and activists on ethical and equitable research practices on LGBTQI people in emergencies.
