In May, Elie, his wife Delphine, and four children arrived in Salt Lake City from a Kenyan refugee camp. Elie hopes for a better future for his children in Utah as he works hard to achieve his family's dreams.

For children to succeed academically and thrive in their schools, parent engagement is critical. Although parent access within schools may be limited for refugee parents at times, they work to make connections with teachers and support their children’s education.

After living here for a year, refugees reflect on what it means to live in the Beehive State.

During the 2022 Utah Legislative Session, the International Rescue Committee in Salt Lake City worked with a variety of partners to raise awareness and advocate alongside refugee, immigrant and new American communities living in the Beehive State.
