Americans have the opportunity to help refugees in their own backyards. Every year, the International Rescue Committee and other nonprofit organizations contract with the US government to help up to 110,000 refugees a year resettle, find jobs and housing, and integrate into American life. 

The IRC’s Refugee Youth Summer Academy is a program designed to help newly arrived students understand and become accustomed to public schools in the U.S. The program works with students of all ages to thrive in a new culture by exposing them to American teaching styles and subjects.

For this year’s International Day of the Girl—observed annually around the world on October 11—the IRC in Atlanta hosted an empowerment celebration to honor the young women in our Youth programs. With support from generous volunteers and donors, students enjoyed an action-packed day of activities, games, setting intentions and having fun with friends!
