Unlike most two years olds, young Yakeen has spent most of her life living under ISIS in Mosul—a life vastly different from how her parents had imagined.

Thousands of people are fleeing their homes as coalition forces fight to retake Mosul from the ISIS militant group. One man talks about life under ISIS and his family's narrow escape.

Aya was forced to flee her home during the battle to retake the Iraqi city of Mosul from ISIS. Now she's found a safe space at an IRC women's center where she can socialize with other girls, and learn skills to help her take control of her future.

An Iraqi family exemplifies the true spirit of the season and celebrates with the help of the IRC. “It is great to be home for the holidays." says Linda Abid Younis, who lives in Telskof, a town north of Mosul that was retaken from ISIS.

The IRC is training Iraqis who were forced from their homes by ISIS as community representatives who can advocate for the needs of their neighbors in the camps where they've been displaced.
