Each year over half of the refugees resettled by the IRC in San Diego are children; in 2016 56% of new arrivals were under 18 years old. Having reached the US, their futures are brighter than the uncertainty, conflict and violence they left behind but as they enter the American education system, refugee youth face a unique set of barriers to academic success.

Less than six years after arriving to the United States from Somalia, Rahmo Bare is the 2019 Dallas Mayor's Intern at the IRC.

After being reunited with her mother in Dallas in 2013, Rahmo Bare was determined to write her own story. In 2019, she joined the IRC in Dallas as the Dallas Mayor's Intern Fellow.

The IRC in Atlanta's Community Health Response Manager, Dr. Omar Aziz, and the CORE Georgia DeKalb County vaccine team were featured on 11Alive news last week, along with community leader, Crispin Wilondja, and our friends at the Prevention Research Center at Georgia State University.
