As a former refugee from Eritrea, Yassin has a unique understanding of how the resettlement process works. Though his work as a caseworker for the IRC in Baltimore, he is able to share his experiences and assist newly arrived refugees and Asylees as they rebuild their lives.

We are thrilled to share with you the stories of refugee community members who have been welcomed to a new home in Tallahassee—in their own words, as shared with our elected leaders.

The IRC in LA booth included staff members from Resettlement, Early Employment, Citizenship and Immigration departments. Refugees, asylees and immigrants asked staff and volunteers about the IRC’s mission, its office services and citizenship and financial literacy workshops. The IRC in LA is a founding member of the RFLA and helped to organize the World Refugee Day event.

Each year on June 20—World Refugee Day—the world commemorates the strength, courage, and resilience of millions of refugees. At the IRC in Atlanta, we also take this time to celebrate the vast contributions that refugees have made to our state for more than 40 years and advocate for refugees, asylum seekers and the restoration of the U.S. refugee resettlement program.
