The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Florida stands in strong opposition to the Department of Children and Families’ proposed ruling, “65C-9.004: Standards for Unaccompanied Alien Children Homes and Unaccompanied Refugee Minor Programs,” as issued on February 10th, 2022.

This summer, children seeking asylum in the U.S. participated in the IRC in LA’s first ever ESL and financial literacy program. On their last day, they received certificates of completion and celebrated with IRC staff and volunteers. It may be their first “graduation” here in the U.S., but we’re certain it won’t be their last.

For this year’s World Refugee Day, the IRC in Florida’s Tallahassee office worked with local partners to celebrate the vast contributions that refugees have made to our state! Thanks to the Florida Department of Children and Families for capturing such beautiful pictures of this event.

In 2015, the IRC in NY began a new program to serve unaccompanied minors as part of a partnership with Heartland Alliance.  Unaccompanied minors are undocumented children who have entered the United States without a parent or legal guardian and then enter the care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement.
