Having fled their home countries and languished in limbo for months, or even years, refugees arrive to the United States with next to nothing. Help restart their household by providing a Welcome Kit with everything a family needs. You can do this as an individual, as a family, or even rally a community group together to create many Welcome Kits! 

On September 29, the International Rescue Committee in Silver Spring invited 50 clients, family mentors, and staff to the Nationals baseball game in Washington, DC for an evening of family fun. The game was a great opportunity to build community, eat burgers and fries from Shake Shack, and provide a break from the stress of Back-to-School season.

The IRC in Tucson offers several team oriented activities. These activities range from group work days at a refugee garden to organizing a fundraising events. Gather a group of friends, family members, or co-workers and get involved!

Prior to their arrival in Wichita, the IRC must set up a household that includes essential items for the arriving family. One way community members and organizations can contribute is to donate these goods which allows clients to to utilize limited resettlement funds on pressing needs such as rent and utilities as they work towards self-sufficiency.

The IRC’s 26 US offices offer a variety of unpaid internship opportunities throughout the year. Prospective interns must go through the volunteer process and should be currently enrolled in an educational institution or a recent graduate.
