Each spring, the IRC in San Diego provides free tax preparation as part of the IRS VITA (Virtual Income Tax Assistance) program. In 2019, the program filed over 3,500 returns and generated more than $5 million in refunds for low-income San Diego families. This tremendous impact would not be possible without the hard work of our incredible volunteers, who work as IRS-certified tax preparers from mid-January through April.

The IRC in Salt Lake City offers several group volunteer opportunities ranging from group work days at our New Roots farm or garden sites, helping out at the Goat Ranch, cleaning up Spice Kitchen and more. Gather your colleagues, friends, family or church group and get involved!

It's well known that the International Rescue Committee's refugee clients come from trouble spots in other parts of the world. What is less known is that some of our volunteer assistants in the office come from other countries as well. The following is an interview with Seleyna Milliot and Dorian Hostain, two standout volunteers who came from France to serve in the IRC's Turlock and Modesto offices from April 2019 through June 2019.

Abdisalan, a refugee from Somalia, is grateful for the help he found at the IRC, from after school tutoring to becoming a US citizen.

On Saturday, June 19 the IRC in Tallahassee will celebrate World Refugee Day. The IRC will host a live virtual panel discussion with community partners, refugee families and the Tallahassee community at-large. In addition, the IRC will host an in-person event tentatively planned at Tom Brown Park. The events will highlight the contributions of the refugee community in Tallahassee, and elevated the voices of refugee families, community leaders and volunteers who ensure Big Bend communities continue to be welcoming places for all.
