January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and the IRC is dedicated to educating the community about this critical issue, our work, and what you can do.

The South Florida Human Trafficking Task Force (SFHTTF) was established in 2018, by the IRC in Miami with support from the Department of Justice and in collaboration with service providers, law enforcement agencies and individuals from the community. The purpose of the SFHTTF is to identify and protect survivors of human trafficking, prosecute traffickers and educate communities across South Florida about the impacts human trafficking has on the community.

On Thursday, July 30, the IRC in Florida is participating in World Day Against Trafficking in Persons by inviting the community to join a live online panel discussion regarding human trafficking in South Florida. Florida ranks in the top three U.S. states for reported incidents of human trafficking, and South Florida exhibits the largest percentage of those cases.

On Thursday, January 28, the IRC in Tallahassee is participating in National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month by inviting the community to join a free, live online panel discussions regarding human trafficking in North Florida.

In honor of National Human Trafficking Awareness Month in January, the IRC in Silver Spring sat down with Winifrida Kassembe, Anti-Trafficking Caseworker, to interview her about the office’s efforts to combat human trafficking in Maryland. The focus of the Anti-Trafficking Program is to ensure that survivors have access to protection and opportunities to achieve self-sufficiency through comprehensive case management, advocacy, education, collaboration, and capacity building.

January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month - learn how you can support anti-trafficking efforts and survivors.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Miami and Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) will continue their joint efforts in combating human trafficking across Florida after being awarded a total of $2,366,666 to fund multi-year anti-trafficking programming.

The IRC in Tallahassee will host a series of community events during January, designated through Presidential Proclamation as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. These events will engage Tallahassee communities in dialogue designed to elevate the voices of survivors of human trafficking, increase awareness of human trafficking and educate the community about ways to prevent it.
