In October, community members gathered at the East African Refugee Goat Project of Utah’s new ranch site for a day of goat herding, activities and a potluck.
The IRC has been a part of the Phoenix Renews site since the first groundbreaking in 2012. Since then the garden has hosted thousands of volunteers, over 50 refugee farmers and even former President Bill Clinton. Unfortunately Keep Phoenix Beautiful has informed us that the PHX Renews site is closing so our farmers have vacated the space. We're now looking for new land to set down roots!
Una Bilic has been at the helm of the IRC in Tallahassee since it first started to welcome families across Big Bend communities in 2016. We now thank Una for her many years of service and dedication as she takes on an exciting new role within IRC’s headquarters team, and we look forward with excitement as a new era begins for the IRC in Tallahassee and its clients.
Schools in Leon County recently welcomed students back to the classrooms, both virtually and in person. The IRC in Tallahassee partners with Leon County Schools to prepare students and families for this unprecedented school year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The back to school process can be challenging at any time but is especially difficult to navigate this year, and several IRC clients mentioned the need for school supplies including an uncertainty about what would be essential and how they should prioritize it in their family budget. Thankfully, our generous supporters and members of the wider community rallied quickly to respond to our call for supplies.
