Volunteer process
Book an information session with our volunteer coordinator.

Complete a background check. To protect our clients, we require background checks for all our volunteers, and we ask volunteers to make a $45 donation to cover associated costs. Currently, 92% of our funding goes directly to our clients, and your help to cover this cost allows us to continue providing the best service possible. These donations can be made at the IRC in Abilene office during normal business hours or online by clicking the following link: https://help.rescue.org/donate/us-abilene-tx. Additional things to note
Most positions require a 3 - 6 month volunteer commitment with 2 - 5 hours per week worked. If this is not feasible for you, please email us about our on-call opportunities or one-time group service opportunities. Internships are also available and can be applied for via the “careers” section on Rescue.org.
