Tax Screener Volunteer
Tax Screener Volunteer will ensure that taxpayers have all the necessary information and documents required to complete a tax return.
Tax Preparer Volunteer
Tax Preparer Volunteer will provide free, professional tax preparation services for low-income clients through IRC’s National Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Tax Quality Reviewer Volunteer
Tax Quality Reviewer Volunteer will conduct a quality review on tax returns prepared to ensure every taxpayer receives top quality service and that tax returns are error free.
Airport Pick Up Volunteer
Airport pick up volunteers will work closely with caseworkers to receive families as they arrive at the DFW International Airport. Volunteers must have access to a car and be willing to transport IRC clients with it.
Apartment Set Up Volunteer
The Apartment Set Up Volunteer will help the Senior Housing and Logistics Specialist prepare and furnish homes for new refugee families.
Transportation Support Volunteer
Support your new neighbors by providing transportation to their appointments.
Digital Literacy Volunteer
Digital Literacy Volunteer will have the opportunity to assist with the creation of digital content and provision of literacy trainings as a pathway to the wellbeing and self-sufficiency for newly arrived refugees across DFW.
Volunteer Medical or Psychological Evaluator
Volunteer evaluators are independently licensed medical or mental healthcare providers who conduct medical or psychological evaluations for survivors of persecution and trauma who are seeking humanitarian immigration relief (i.e. asylum) in the United States and who do not have the resources to obtain a standard (paid) evaluation.
How to become an IRC volunteer
COVID-19 Update
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the IRC in Dallas. Volunteers play a vital role in our office's ability to welcome and serve refugees and immigrants in our community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our team has continued to provide support to our newest American neighbors and has worked to modify services to ensure the safety of our clients, staff, volunteers and interns. Due to the modification of services, we currently have fewer in-person opportunities for new volunteers. We will continue to update this page as new opportunities become available, but in the meantime, please click here to learn more about all the ways you can support our refugee and immigrant neighbors.
Volunteer process
Email [email protected] to get the dates and times for future information sessions. At the information session, you will learn more about what the IRC does in the Dallas area and how you can get involved.
At the info session, we’ll provide you with the link to the volunteer application. Review our current available volunteer positions and submit your application online.
The Volunteer Coordinator will review your application and may schedule a phone or in-person interview.
Once the interview is conducted, successful applicants will need to complete the necessary background checks*. To protect our clients, we require background checks for all our volunteers. We ask volunteers to make a $45 donation to help offset the cost. This process can take 1-2 weeks.
Once cleared, you will receive further training for your specific volunteer assignment and will begin helping people rebuild their lives in Dallas.
Additional things to note
*You must be 18 years or older to volunteer and complete a background check. Children are able to volunteer alongside parents in our family mentor program.
Volunteer positions require a consistent amount of hours per week. If this is not feasible for you, please email us about our on-call opportunities.
