The IRC is teaming up with Airbnb to help connect refugees with free, temporary housing as they settle into their new communities. Whether it’s a family or an individual starting a new life in your community, Open Homes lets hosts offer their space to newcomers. You can create a direct, lasting impact on someone’s life. Join other local hosts who are already opening their homes. Learn how you can use your extra space to provide a welcoming stay for refugees through Airbnb’s Open Homes program: Open Homes.
Location: City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, within walking distance of a bus route
Requirements: Hosts provide a spare room or guest house with comfortable beds for each guest, basic amenities and toiletries; and should be available to host for two weeks of more.
Because of our partnership with Airbnb, Open Home hosts do not need to complete our regular volunteer on-boarding process. However, hosts are encouraged to attend a Volunteer Orientation to learn more about our programs and services in Charlottesville. Please contact the IRC in Charlottesville Volunteer Coordinator, Katie Heroux, at Katie.Heroux [at] rescue.org or 434-979-7772 x102 for the upcoming Orientation schedule.
