IRC Atlanta’s Career Development program helps individuals to advance their career through work readiness workshops, career counseling, assistance with training program enrollments and job upgrades.  The professional mentorship program will allow an individual and/or organization to work one on one with foreign trained professionals and provide them with professional development skills, guidance, and networking that will allow them to advance in their careers here in the United States. 

 

Responsibilities:

As a career connector you would have the opportunity to be matched with foreign trained professionals and work one on one with them as they look to grow professionally into a meaningful career. Career connectors are required to meet with mentees at least twice month in person, over the phone, or video conference for at least one hour, after completing an orientation with an IRC staff member. A career connector is someone who has a large professional network who is willing to circulate resumes and leverage professional connections to advocate for highly skilled immigrant and refugee clients to enter specific fields.During your meetings you can attend networking events, provide industry specific advice to edit resumes and cover letters, and conduct industry related practice interviews. We are looking for individuals who have had a least 5 years of experience in a field, a desire to support and advise someone from a different culture and background on the U.S. job force, has knowledge of the U.S. job force and/or certain industries, and commit the time to cultivate a professional relationship with the mentee to see to their future success.

Preferred Areas of Expertise:

Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, Construction Trades, Information Technology, Medical Field, Public Health, Business Administration, Education, Aviation, Transportation and Logistics

Requirements:

  • Must have a good understanding of job seeking in the U.S.
  • Must be willing to make client introductions to employers/companies
  • Must be willing to attend partner meetings with IRC Career Development Team
  • Must participate in a background check
  • Must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination
  • Must track and log hours volunteered monthly via our online volunteer dashboard
  • Must be willing to meet face-to-face with clients with virtual meetings as needed

Minimum Commitment:

  • A minimum commitment of six months is required
