This position is responsible for improving the lives of refugees, asylees, and immigrants through engaging community members in support of the Community Relations Coordinator. The role involves providing communications, social media, and advocacy support; as well as resource develeopment, donor relations, fundraising, events, and volunteer recruitment and coordination. 

This position is currently remote.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draft stories and create content for the IRC-LA newsletter, website, and social media
  • Assist with the production of events and fundraising activities
  • Research in-kind donations and community resources for clients
  • Create community facing information for programs, services, and also in-kind donations
  • Organize donation drives in coordination with staff and/or community groups
  • Assist with the recruitment of new volunteers and interns, leading monthly information sessions
  • Provide other research, advocacy, and community engagement support as needed

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current undergrad, graduate student or recently graduated student 
  • Interest or experience with events, communications, and graphic design a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills: the ability to work effectively with partners, donors, colleagues in a cross cultural, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time & meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work across departments towards measurable outcomes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel; ability to quickly learn CRM programs and associated software
  • Must be comfortable with communicating with clients and community partners on the phone and in person.
  • Valid driver’s license and a vehicle with valid insurance are required (N/A if remote)

This is an unpaid internship. Work related driving is eligible for reimbursement at the charitable mileage rate.

Internships are available for current college students, graduate students, and graduates less than 1 year post-graduation.  Course credit and transcript notation are available if the student submits the appropriate paperwork to the Community Relations Coordinator.
