Location: IRC office in Baltimore
Time Commitment: this volunteer position requires a time commitment of at least 3 hours per week during business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:45am to 5pm). We are looking for volunteers who can commit to the same time period each week for a minimum of 12 weeks. The weekly time commitment can range from the minimum 3 hours per week up to full-time hours. Our biggest need is on Fridays (especially mornings) and Mondays.
Responsibilities: the front desk volunteer is an essential part of the IRC's front desk team and helps create a welcoming environment for our clients and guests. The volunteer must communicate with clients in a friendly and professional manner, provide relevant information to answer client questions, effectively and efficiently answer incoming phone calls, and direct inquiries to appropriate staff members. The front desk volunteer must comply with all agency policies and protocol.
Skills & Qualifications: volunteers must be culturally sensitive and respectful of diverse backgrounds; be willing to work with English language learners; self-motivated and comfortable working with little supervision; able to collaborate with others and work well as part of a team; able to handle sensitive client information confidently; organized with excellent time management skills; and be able to communicate effectively in English. Fluency in additional languages is helpful, but not required.
