Position Description:
Health Outreach Interns support a grant-funded program to provide refugees and other survivors of conflict and persecution with COVID-19 safety information, testing, vaccine information and assistance with cultural sensitivity and in-language support.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision and direction of the Educator & Health Promoter staff, the COVID-19 Health Outreach Intern will help with a range of activities to assist clients of refugee background with COVID-19 health and basic needs.
Duties will include the following:
- Reach out to clients regarding COVID-19 education, test appointments, and vaccine information and locations
- Research federal, state and local materials related to COVID-19
- Provide clients with Personal Protective Equipment at vaccine sites on designated dates and times
- Assist with IRC partnered mobile vaccine site clinics through set-up, flyers, information distribution, and on-location assistance (if fully vaccinated and comfortable to attend)
- Assist in contacting employers, organizations and groups for COVID-19 partnerships and information purposes
- Provide referrals to IRC staff for client COVID-19 employment, public benefits, immigration, English classes, etc.
- Work with IRC staff on social media posts and live videos
- Input information into Excel tracking sheets and IRC databases
- Attend COVID-19 partnership meetings when applicable
Learning Objectives:
Interns will learn how to do the following:
- Provide and present COVID-19 information based on scientific data
- Direct clients to global, federal, state and local COVID-19 resources.
- Input client information in databases
- Provide COVID-19 basic need referals and information
Requirements:
Candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Current undergrad, graduate student, or recently graduated student with a focus in Health, Public Health, Social Work, Education, Psychology, Advocacy or a related field
- Be fully vaccinated in accordance with CDC standards
- Be proficient in computer and online search skills using programs such as MS Office, Windows, GoogleDrive, Google, etc.
- Must be comfortable reaching out to clients and partners on the phone, via email, and in person
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle with valid insurance
This position reports to the Educator and Health Promoter.
This is an unpaid internship requiring 15 hours/week. Work-related driving is eligible for reimbursement at the volunteer mileage rate
Internships are available for current college students, graduate students, and graduates less than 2 years post-graduation. Course credit and transcript notation are available if the student submits the appropriate paperwork to the Volunteer and Donations Coordinator.

Volunteers work with Immigration Program Caseworkers to directly assist clients with the processing and filing of applications for citizenship, lawful permanent residence, family reunification, and other immigration petitions necessary to receive legal residency in the United States and reunite family members. This position reports to the Immigration Coordinator and requires a minimum 8 hr/week commitment. Preference will be given to those who can commit a minimum of 15 hrs/week or more.
