TITLE: Child Care Placement Intern
LOCATION: Missoula, Montana
COMMITMENT: 3+ months; Minimum 10 hrs/week

REPORTS TO: Casework Staff
BACKGROUND:
The International Rescue Committee is the leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. The resettlement office in Missoula, Montana provides services to approximately 150 newly arriving refugees per year.
SCOPE OF WORK:
This position works closely with IRC Missoula staff and Child Care Resources to place refugee children in appropriate early childhood education facilities. Child Care Resources is a local agency that connects families to childcare. This role helps families search for childcare based on individual needs including afterschool, daycare, summer camps or other placements.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and implement childcare self-sufficiency plan in coordination with IRC staff and refugee family including: search for appropriate openings, facilitate tours, & assist families in completing paperwork
- Serve as a liason between refugee clients and Child Care Resources, the state childcare scholarship program provider.
- Teach families how to ride the public bus to reach Child Care Resources and childcare facilities
- Establish and cultivate relationships with Child Care Resources and early education providers
- Expand on existing childcare procedures and protocol manual
- Assisting with files, case notes, data entry, participation in weekly case staffing meetings
REQUIREMENTS:
- Background in early childhood education, social work, or other related fields
- Motivated, flexible and ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage time effectively
- Strong computer skill with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work as a team member in a cross-cultural environment
- IRC orientation and background check required
- Experience working with refugees/diverse populations is a plus

IRC Missoula Resource Development Intern - Position Currently Filled
As a resource development intern you will be responsible for assisting the Development Coordinator with various aspects of fundraising, event planning, volunteer recruitment and coordination, and handling in-kind donations. Tasks may include recording donations and responding to donors, answering volunteer inquiries, maintaining records of volunteers and their service hours, processing donations of goods and assisting with the in-kind inventory management.
