TITLE: Immigration Intern
LOCATION: Missoula, Montana
COMMITMENT: 5+ hours a week, 3+ months, flexibility in scheduling

BACKGROUND:
The International Rescue Committee is the leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. The resettlement office in Missoula, Montana provides services to approximately 120 newly arriving refugees per year.
SCOPE OF WORK:
Immigration Interns work with the Caseworker to directly assist clients with the processing and filing of applications for lawful permanent residence, family reunification, affidavits of relationship, and other immigration petitions necessary to receive legal residency in the United States.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Set-up and conduct intake and immigration interviews with assistance from an interpreter and casework staff.
- Prepare and complete immigration applications and petitions on behalf of refugees, asylees, and immigrants for submission to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
- Conduct follow-up, including written and telephone communication with USCIS and respond to requests for further evidence and inquiries.
- Maintain case files by copying, faxing, and inputting information in immigration case management database.
- Assist the Caseworker to complete Affidavits of Relationship for family reunification; manage case files and client communication.
- Assist with projects and administrative duties as assigned by the Caseworker.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Background in law OR other related fields
- Motivated, flexible and ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage time effectively
- Strong computer skill with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work as a team member in a cross-cultural environment
- IRC orientation and background check required
- Experience working with refugees/diverse populations is a plus

IRC Refugee Support Volunteer - Recruiting
As a Refugee Support Volunteer you will be paired with an IRC Caseworker to help provide support to newly arrived refugee families. As a resource development intern you will be responsible for assisting the Development Coordinator with various aspects of fundraising, event planning, volunteer recruitment and coordination, and handling in-kind donations. Tasks may include recording donations and responding to donors, answering volunteer inquiries, maintaining records of volunteers and their service hours, processing donations of goods and assisting with the in-kind inventory management. IRC Missoula Communications Intern - Position Currently Filled
As a communications intern you will be responsible for assisting in the community outreach and communication strategy for the International Rescue Committee in Missoula. You can expect to work on projects as varied as fundraising campaigns to advocacy drives, anywhere that specific messaging is needed. As such, you will be expected to learn about the IRC (history, scope of work, values, ect.), our clients, and trends in refugee resettlement in order to communicate to a variety of audiences in a manner consistent with our messaging. All communication activities will be done in coordination with office staff and under the supervision of the Development Coordinator.
IRC Missoula Employment Volunteer - Recruiting
One of the programs IRC Missoula offers is the Matching Grant Program – a case management program that offers critical support for work eligible adults in developing job skills and assistance in the job placement process. As an Employment Support Volunteer, you will support the Senior Employment Specialist and Employment team with various aspects of employment. Duties include but are not limited to assisting refugees with job training provided by employers, facilitating job readiness activities, assisting refugees with attending job interviews, and occasional administrative support such as filing, documentation, and helping clients with paperwork. As such, you will be expected to learn about the IRC (history, scope of work, values, etc.), our clients, and core services. All activities will be done in coordination with the office staff and under the supervision of the Senior Employment Specialist.
