SCOPE OF ROLE: The Mail Delivery Volunteer will assist the Casework Department in helping to deliver mail from the IRC Richmond office to the client's house. Mail is delivered to the IRC Richmond office to prevent loss of mail when clients move from temporary to permanent housing, and this role will be important in ensuring that clients receive important communication in a timely manner!


  • Schedule flexible ((mail must be picked up from IRC Richmond offi ce sometime Monday-Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm and delivered within 1-2 days)
  • Frequency: biweekly or weekly (amount of mail received will fluctuate)
  • Hours: 2-3 hours per week

LOCATION: IRC office, client homes (typically Richmond city or Henrico)


  • Pick up mail from IRC office
  • Contact clients via text to coordinate mail drop off 
  • Distribute mail to client homes within 24-48 hours of pickup from office 
  • Return any mail with incorrect addresses or mail you are unable to deliver to IRC office


  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must keep mail secure and client information confidential
  • Must adhere to IRC professional standards and volunteer policies including those around boundaries, confidentiality, COVID-19, etc.
