Resettlement Volunteer (Admin)
The Resettlement Volunteer will work with the R&P and APA Caseworkers to resettle newly arrived refugee families in San Diego. This position is in-person at our El Cajon office and reports to the Resettlement Supervisors.
Volunteers should also be culturally sensitive and respectful of diverse backgrounds, self-motivated and comfortable working with little supervision, and able to handle sensitive client information confidentially. Most importantly, volunteers should be welcoming and eager to help newly-arrived refugees settle into the San Diego community. Volunteers will be provided with PPE for their safety.
Responsibilities
- Assist IRC clients with making appointments to different providers (school, medical, other social services) and assist with client paperwork
- Assist with collecting documents from clients, building case files for case workers, and organizing case files
- Complete data entry, internet research, scanning, copying, faxing, and filing
- Assist with other case management-related tasks when needed
- Record hours and submit a completed time sheet at the end of each month via the IRC’s online Volunteer Dashboard
Requirements
- Must be available 15-20 hours a week Mon-Fri and adhere to a consistent schedule
- Must be available for a minimum duration of three months
- Helpful, but not required: fluency in another language such as Arabic, Armenian, Farsi, Dari/Pashto, or Spanish
- Excellent communication skills
- Provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19
- Willing to adhere to IRC Volunteer and workplace policies, including confidentiality policies
- Ability to work in an office setting that fluctuates greatly in pace and volume.
- Interest in working with persons from all cultural backgrounds.
- Comfort greeting in-person and conversing on the phone with individuals who might speak limited English.
- Adequately follow instructions and see an assignment to completion, asking questions when necessary.
- Moderate or higher skill level on Microsoft Office Suite.
