Scope of Work: The Student Support Volunteer will help refugee students in Salt Lake City area navigate their remote, online school work by providing basic academic and tech support for grades K-12th. Please note that this is an in-person opportunity, depending on the specific needs of the matched student. Volunteers will be matched with a student and/or family with kids who need help with their online classes and asked to meet regularly with the student/family to troubleshoot barriers to accessing online classwork. This position is in-person. The position has specific COVID19 procedures and policies in place that must be followed to ensure the safety of all clients, staff, and volunteers.
Responsibilities:
- Provide weekly tutoring and tech support for students who are disproportionately impacted by distance learning, support will be provided in-person.
- Uphold firm safety guidelines to promote health and wellbeing of clients, staff, and volunteers
- Communicate with the IRC Education Team on a weekly basis on student progress and challenges experienced
Requirements:
- Able to commit to at least one shift (around 1-2 hrs.) per week on a consistent basis
- Able to commit to a minimum of 3 months.
- Adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies, including confidentiality policies and respect for family experiences
- Patient, flexible, and reliable
- Able to communicate effectively and clearly in English, knowledge of any of the following languages is a plus: Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili, Rohingya, Dari/Farsi/Pashto, Spanish, Vietnamese and Arabic
- COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement: In accordance with IRC’s duty to provide and maintain a workplace that is free of known hazards and our commitment to safeguard the health of our employees, clients, and communities, IRC requires all volunteers who are interested in providing in-person support for our work to furnish proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be onboarded for the position.
