The Unaccompanied Children's Program Intern will assist the Unaccompanied Children's Caseworker in providing casework to unaccompanied children who have been released from detention into the care of a sponsor. Minors are typically from the Northern Triangle, ie Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct home visits to sponsors
- Assist caseworker with familiy reunification process
- Provide case management support to minors and families
- Completing and entering detailed casenotes
- Conducting follow up calls with sponsors and clients
- Providing referrals to pro-bono immigration services
- Enrolling children in school and Medi-Cal
- Conducting research to develop resources to support the UC Program
- Providing ESL support or referrals
- Administrative tasks as assigned
Requirements:
- Fluency in Spanish is required
- Bachelors degree (Masters degree a plus) in Social Work, International Relations or related field
- Background or interest in immigration, social work, or education preferred
- Must be extremely organized, detail oriented, and able to handle complex situations
- Ability to provide trauma informed care a must
This position reports to the Unaccompanied Children Caseworker. This is an unpaid internship, but mileage is eligible for reimbursement.
