SCOPE OF WORK

Free tax preparation is a core component of IRC's economic empowerment services. IRC has operated a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for over 15 years, providing FREE tax preparation services to hard-to-reach individuals and families. Serving as a volunteer for this program has a tremendous impact on IRC's ability to extend reputable and accessible services to refugees and immigrants, who otherwise may end up paying substantial fees for preparing their taxes.

Last tax season, the IRC in San Diego's VITA Volunteers completed more than 2,200 returns and helped our community receive more than $3.5 million inrefunds. As a tax preparation volunteer, you will work one-on-one with clients, supporting them in navigating the ins and outs of tax preparation.

NO PREVIOUS TAX EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! If chosen as a volunteer, the IRC will provide training that results in your certification as a volunteer income tax preparer. This training involves a self-directed online curriculum combined with support from IRC staff. This is an excellent opportunity to gain tax preparation skills while supporting families and individuals who can benefit from your expertise.
