This position will help support the Volunteer Coordinator’s efforts to recruit, train, and support volunteers at the IRC San Jose office. This position allows for great learning regarding the use of popular platforms (e.g. Salesforce, Handshake, Linkedin, etc.) and responsibility on part of the volunteer to build community support in order to provide the necessary support to staff for the successful completion of program deliverables and client services. This is an excellent position for those looking to gain a broader understanding of work in the nonprofit sector and make a large impact in the overall work of the IRC. This position reports to the Volunteer and Donations Coordinator and requires a minimum 8 hr/week commitment.
COMMITMENT:
Volunteer: Minimum 8 hours a week for at least 4 full months
Intern: Minimum 15 hours a week for at least 4 full months or 240 hours total
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Update volunteer and internship opportunities on the website and other recruitment platforms
- Manage correspondence with interested volunteers
- Identify potential schools and organizations for outreach
- Conduct phone screening of potential volunteers and interns
- Conduct on-boarding orientations for new volunteers on their first day of arrival and train them on their office functions
- Logistical Support: register new volunteers with the IRC; send out background checks; enter and maintain volunteer contact list; update volunteer picture/info board
- Support active volunteers as needs arise and plan volunteer development activities
- Plan unique volunteer appreciation events
- Assist with managing Student Ambassadors
- Collaborate with IRC Staff to gain a broad understanding of current programs in order to be able to provide the necessary support for their success
- This position may require assistance with Social Media and Donations & CIK
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- All volunteers and interns must be 18+ years of age and clear a background check
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with partners, donors, and colleagues in a cross cultural, multi-disciplinary environment
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time and meet deadlines
- Have a strong sense of personal initiative and be able to work independently in a fast-paced office
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel, Salesforce, Handshake, and other platforms
- Enjoys working with people, is comfortable with speaking in front of groups, and is capable of leading and supporting a group of peers
