Volunteer Financial Literacy Instructor

For IRC clients to become fully self-sufficient, they must be taught financial literacy. Financial Literacy Instructors are responsible for teaching monthly workshops on topics such as credit, banking, and budgeting. These modules are critical to help new Americans understand the basics of the American financial system.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

o Conduct 2-hour financial literacy classes at least once per month

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

o All volunteers must be 18+ years of age and clear a background check

o Experience working with adults with limited English proficiency or from low-income and diverse backgrounds preferred

o Financial literacy knowledge

o Proficient computer use such as MS Office and Windows

 

REWARDS:

o Learn how to effectively teach and educate adults from low-income and diverse backgrounds

o Learn about IRC’s services to refugees from many different backgrounds and how best to assist them in their resettlement in the U.S.

o Help refugees feel welcomed in their new home and prepared for their new life

o Complete a phone screening with the Volunteer Coordination Team

o Complete a Department Interview with department(s) of interest

o Pass a background check ($40 fee)

o Complete orientation and submit requested paperwork
