David Miliband named next IRC president
March 27, 2013 by The IRC
Today the International Rescue Committee announced that David Miliband, former Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom, would succeed George Rupp as our president and CEO in September.
“The IRC’s mission is personal for me because my own parents were refugees who arrived in Britain in the 1940s,” says Miliband. “I look forward to honoring the memory of those who helped my parents by leading the IRC as it continues to offer help today to uprooted people around the world.”
Rupp, who has led the IRC since stepping down as president of Columbia University in 2002, describes Miliband as an “experienced world leader and a man of both action and character.”
Others have applauded the appointment, including President William J. Clinton who said in a statement released this morning, "I have known David almost twenty years. He is one of the ablest, most creative public servants of our time."
