Motherhood is life changing. It shouldn't be dangerous.

Every year during childbirth, over 500,000 women worldwide die from preventable causes during pregnancy and childbirth. In Africa, these risks have given rise to the saying: “A woman who is pregnant has one foot in the grave.”
In South Sudan where I work, nearly all births are unattended by a health professional and happen in homes where there is no electricity or clean water. The International Rescue Committee is leading efforts here to provide prenatal care and safe childbirth services to rural women through community midwives who are deployed across remote areas. By helping mothers to stay healthy, we can ensure that their children get a strong start to life and continue to thrive.
You can help save lives when you give a symbolic gift — like maternal health care or a safe delivery — that will aid women and their families wherever the IRC works.
