Five years after the outbreak of war in Syria, the International Rescue Committee has helped more than 3 million uprooted Syrians to recover and rebuild their lives. We provide medical and other critical aid, ensure refugees have access to legal counseling, and help women and girls who are victims of violence.
The Latest
How We Help
- The IRC is currently providing support to Syrian refugees in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, Greece and Serbia. We're also helping to resettle Syrians granted refuge in the United States.
- In Syria, we have reached almost 2 million people with medical care, shelter, emergency supplies and cash assistance. We run healing classrooms and child-friendly spaces for children and offer services for survivors of violence including counseling.
- In Jordan, the IRC provides reproductive health care, cash assistance, and social services to refugee families, as well as counseling and other support for survivors of sexual violence. We also help children who’ve crossed the border alone to reunite with their families.
- In Lebanon, the IRC operates women’s centers that provide counseling, medical consultations, and group activities to refugees and vulnerable Lebanese. We are also helping hundreds of refugee families and the Lebanese hosting them with cash assistance for rent, food, utilities and other essentials. We’re providing education for refugee children as well as job training for adults.
- In Iraq, In Iraq, the IRC has ramped up its response to violence propagated by armed forces. The IRC operates women’s centers, provides education, water and sanitation services, health care, cash assistance and ensures refugees have free access to legal assistance.
- In Greece, the IRC is improving living conditions for thousands of refugees sheltering in makeshift camps on the island of Lesbos. We are also helping new arrivals navigate the perplexing registration process and understand their legal rights. Learn more about how we help refugees in Europe.
