Get Involved: Serve as a Volunteer with the IRC in Dallas and Abilene
Have you ever considered volunteering cross-culturally but are not in a position to travel abroad? Then consider volunteering with the IRC in Dallas. Volunteer opportunities are broad and provide an enriching, international experience in Dallas or Abilene. Opportunities to serve include:
- Helping refugees acclimate to Dallas by showing them around the city, teaching them English, showing them the grocery store, and being a friend to the family.
- Greeting visitors to the office, answering phones, assisting with the donations closet, making phone calls, and working with case management, employment, immigration, or resource development departments.
- Organizing a donation drive for household items and appliances that include housecleaning supplies, vacuum cleaners, microwaves, wheelchairs, infant diapers, car seats, coats and blankets.
- Helping interpret Arabic, Burmese, Chin, Karen, Karenni, Somali, Swahili, Nepali or Spanish.

Information Sessions are held at 6500 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75206. Evening sessions take place in the lobby conference room. Daytime sessions take place at the IRC office, 5th FL.
