Congo: Hope and resilience [Photos]

By The IRC
Since violence erupted between Congolese rebels and the government army in late October, journalists from all over the world have crowded the hotels of Goma, venturing out to photograph death and devastation.
But all the while, IRC staff in North Kivu have continued to serve those for whom life goes on -- children who laugh despite their bare feet and runny noses, mothers whose hardy approach to survival has not waned, and men who still make the rounds with a smile, shaking hands as they go.
