John Drollinger, a grants manager for the International Rescue Committee in South Sudan, shares these photos. He says:
Located near the border with Sudan, Yida refugee settlement is home to over 70,000 refugees who fled conflict and frequent bombings in the Nuba Mountains in Sudan’s South Kordofan State.
Judu Juma, pictured here with his mother Naimat, is one of Yida's newest residents. Just days old, he was one of 57 babies delivered at the International Rescue Committee's Women and Girls' Wellness Center last week.
At the center, the IRC's health team cares for the specific needs of women and girls, who are among the most vulnerable populations in Yida. The IRC is proud to report that deliveries at our center experience lower rates of complications and Cesarean sections than are expected in similar humanitarian situations.
