Two months ago, Jabadjie, a 16-month-old girl suffering from acute and severe malnutrition, was rushed to an IRC-supported clinic in Kati, a district in Mali. After a few weeks of intensive care and a feeding regimen of nutritionally fortified peanut paste and milk, Jabadjie showed signs of recovery. more »

A week after Mohammed was born, he was abandoned by his parents and left in the care of an aunt, Assetou Diallo, who was already struggling to raise nine children. He and another of Assetou's children were diagnosed with malnutrition, malaria and pneumonia at an IRC clinic. more »

Drought in the Sahel region of Africa could not come at a worse time for the nation of Mali. Its northern territory was forcibly taken over by insurgents early this year, and soon afterwards a coup displaced the country’s democratically elected government. more »
