The villagers in Tasarphu, which lies close to the quake's epicenter, are desperately poor, like most rural Nepalese. Over the past week, some 7,000 have received food, blankets, shelter materials and other emergency items from the IRC’s partner, AAR Japan. more »

Ruth Cachuela, Agdaliran’s village president, was devastated when Typhoon Haiyan destroyed 205 of her community’s 275 houses. While many of the homes higher up the slopes were still standing after the typhoon, most of those built along the bay were demolished by wind and waves. more »
