World Refugee Day 2013 - join us!

On June 20, 2013 the International Rescue Committee will join the United Nations in its annual salute to the courage of refugees, World Refugee Day. 
IRC offices across the United States and around the world are marking World Refugee Day with a variety of events throughout the month of June. Here's a sampling:

Atlanta, GA: June 17-22 - Georgia World Refugee Day 
A week full of ways to learn about the refugee experience, with art exhibitions, storytelling, film screenings, international foods and performances, and an oath ceremony for new U.S. citizens.
Enjoy performances by musicians from Darfur and Eritrea, dancers from Myanmar, and Bmore’s favorite beat boxer – Shodekeh – who’ll be joined by students from the Refugee Youth Project. Free.
London, UK: Starting June 20 - On Solid Ground - Building a picture of home
What does it mean to be forced to flee your home in an instant and rebuild a life away from your community? Visit an exhibition at St. Martin in the Fields with images, stories and short films about refugees. 
Miami, FL: June 14 - 2013 World Refugee Day
Join the IRC and the Miami-Dade Refugee Taskforce for stories, dance, music and art from around the world, and a spotlight on those who welcome refugees to Miami. 10am-2:30pm,111 NW 1st St.
New York, NY: June 21 through August - Hidden Lives: The Untold Story of Urban Refugees 
Photographer Andrew McConnell spent many months documenting the lives of refugees in eight cities across four continents. Photo exhibit at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.
New York, NY: June 22 - World Refugee Day at Drew Gardens
Bring a blanket to sit on the grass and enjoy a day of food, games, and dance performances. You'll also get gardening tips from refugees who farm this green oasis in the Bronx as part of the IRC's New Roots program.
Salt Lake City, UT: June 22 - World Refugee Day Celebration
Together with local partners, the IRC will take part in a festival celebrating new U.S. citizens. Enjoy activities, local ethnic cuisine and a global artisans' marketplace featuring refugee artists.
Learn what home means to people across the globe through panel presentations, live music and dance performances. Sample various ethnic foods and buy crafts from local vendors. Free.
Seattle, WA: June 20 - Refugee ARTvocacy
Our eighth annual ARTvocacy event will highlight the work of local refugee artists as well as celebrate new U.S. citizens who will be naturalized in a ceremony on World Refugee Day. Donation suggested.
Silver Spring, MD: June 25 - World Refugee Day: Celebrating Resilience
Join the Suburban Washington Resettlement Center and our partners for a celebration with live entertainment, an art exhibition, international arts and crafts and more. Free.
