Thank You Tucson - Backpack Drive a Success!

The IRC in Tucson would like to thank the generous businesses, civic groups, and individuals who made this year’s Backpack & School Supply Drive a huge success. With the Tucson community’s support, IRC is now able to provide a backpack stuffed with education supplies to every newly arrived adult and child.

With ready access to school supplies, refugee students can complete homework assignments and excel in the classroom. For parents engaged in a full-time job search, notepads and backpacks become valuable tools to interact with employers and practice their ESL activities in the home.

“Buying backpacks and pencils may sound like a small expense,” says Melissa Wieters, Development Officer at the IRC in Tucson, “but families who are pinching every penny often have to cut these items from their budget. We’re grateful that our clients don’t have to make that hard choice.”
