International Rescue Committee (IRC)

Backpack Campaign

It's that time of year again!

Each summer, the IRC asks the San Diego community to help us give a new backpack filled with school supplies to every refugee child who will be entering an American school for the first time this fall.

Newly arrived refugee families have extremely limited resources and are not able to purchase backpacks/supplies for their children.  An age appropriate backpack helps make that first day of school a little easier.

Individuals and groups are welcome to help!  If you are interested in contributing one or more backpacks, please contact Sneha at or 619 641-7510 x295.  She can give you a list of suggested supplies and you can sign up for a specific grade/gender (for example, K-3 girls or 7-8 boys).

We are asking that the backpacks arrive at the IRC office during the 3rd week of August. We will put nametags on them and deliver them to the school children before their first day of school.

Thank you for your support!
