Welcome to the IRC in San Diego

Letter from David Murphy, Executive Director of the IRC in San Diego

“What I have experienced so far in the United States is that there is no limit to what you can achieve here.  With hard work and dedication, abiding by the rule of law, any of your dreams can come true” -Joseph Jok, Case Manager at the IRC, refugee from Sudan

Refugees arrive in the US eager to take full advantage of the freedom and opportunities available in their new country.   The IRC in San Diego is dedicated to providing refugees with the skills, services, and support they need to succeed.   Our office opened in 1975 to assist refuges from Southeast Asia.  Since then, we have resettled over 27,000 refugees from 29 countries, providing effective, innovative resettlement services designed to assist refugees to rebuild their lives and achieve sustainable self-reliance.

The array of services offered by the IRC in San Diego include housing, cash assistance, English language classes for adults and teens,  employment assistance, financial education, small business development, and food security programs.  We also help people realize their dreams of becoming U.S. citizens.  Our services reach over 6,000 people annually.  Click here to learn more about our programs.

We succeed in assisting refugees only with the strong support of the San Diego community. Refugee families benefit greatly from community volunteers, advocates, and donors.    I urge you to become active in our efforts to assist refugees to establish a safe and secure life here in San Diego.

It is my hope that you will regularly visit our website and stay informed on the numerous activities offered by the San Diego office.  We also have a facebook page and a Twitter account:
