SCOPE OF ROLE: Housing Volunteers assist our Casework Department with preparing for and conducting client move-ins into permanent housing. This role helps to ensure that our newer clients feel welcomed and at home in their permanent housing in Richmond!
COMMITMENT:
- Days and times: Monday-Thursday between 9:30am and 3:30pm (move-ins happen on short notice - typically 2-3 days)
- Frequency: weekly preferred, biweekly accepted
- Hours: 2-3 hours per shift
LOCATION: IRC Richmond office, client temporary/permanent housing (typically Richmond city or Henrico)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Compile new home supplies from donated items
- Use a company card to shop for items needed that are not in donation storage
- Meet client at temporary housing and pack belongings into your car (belongings should already be boxed by clients)
- Transport client from temporary housing to permanent housing
- Go with client to leasing office to pick up key and copy of lease
- Unload belongings at permanent housing
- Assist with housing orientation and safety training with the help of an interpreter
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able and willing to lift 40(+) lbs. (volunteers will *not* be moving furniture)
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, willingness to drive
- Flexibility - move-ins happen on short notice (2-3 days) so short-term availability is a must
- Attention to detail
- Must adhere to IRC professional standards and volunteer policies including those around boundaries, confidentiality, COVID-19, etc.
