After years of displacement in Lebanon, families like Bayan’s and Mohammad’s are returning to Syria with the hope of rebuilding their lives, but they are met with a harsh reality: destroyed homes, weakened services, and growing health and protection needs. With support from EU Humanitarian Aid, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is scaling up vital services in health facilities and protection programs, helping people rebuild safer lives.

In 2018, the IRC assisted over 120,000 Syrian refugees and low-income Jordanians to access healthcare, protection, education and income generation opportunities. One of the recent changes that IRC staff have noticed is that Syrian women are taking on more of an income earning role than was the norm back in Syria and that this is creating changes in household dynamics.
