Our commitment to safeguarding

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) works in more than 40 countries to help people affected by humanitarian crises to survive, recover and rebuild their lives. In doing this work, the IRC endeavours to ensure that everyone coming into contact with our organisation is safe.

The IRC understands safeguarding as its responsibility to ensure IRC Persons and Associates do not engage in conduct that may harm IRC Clients, Persons, or Associates. Read about our global safeguarding approach, including IRC’s global Safeguarding Policy.

To report wrongdoing – violations of our Code of Conduct or other unethical behaviour linked to IRC – visit our Report Wrongdoing website.

Safeguarding in the UK

The IRC also works with refugees and displaced persons rebuilding their lives in the UK, and the above safeguarding responsibilities are extended to include providing appropriate and sensitive support to clients, irrespective of whether the harm is connected to IRC Persons or projects, in line with UK statutory guidance.

IRC UK's approach to safeguarding is detailed in IRC UK's Safeguarding Standard Operating Procedure. Read IRC UK’s Safeguarding Standard Operating Procedure.
